"This book is written by over 30 arts practitioners and collectives. It's aim is to articulate and contextualise an ethos and practice within contemporary art called "DIY" theatre and performance.

This book is a text that provokes, prescribes, instructs, argues, plays, advises, promotes and describes. Its emphasis is on how theatre makers can encourage and evolve performance making by sharing their theories and practices, to help empower more artists to engage with this way of working. Critically (or theoretically) this book addresses a wide range of perspectives on "DIY" theatre and performance and identifies key axioms and dichotomies between ethos and style.

Paper stages

Published by Forest Fringe, Live Art UK and Live Art Development Agency. Co-authored Book.

Sun Dial- A point of view on Time, (performance text)

Paper Stages was a beautifully designed book co-authored by over 20 Forest Fringe artists, each page with a different instruction-based performance for the reader or readers to perform themselves. Inspired by the work of the Happenings and Fluxus artists of the 1960s, this book became a miniature festival of Do-It-Yourself performances; full of scripts, event scores, challenges, illustrations, diagrams and maps.

The limited copies were given out at a secret venue in Edinburgh and later published in 2013.

Paper Stages was conceived by Deborah Pearson and Andy Field for Forest Fringe. Created in partnership with Arnolfini, Battersea Arts Centre, Cambridge Junction, Fierce Festival, National Theatre Wales and Northern Stage. Published by Forest Fringe, Live Art UK and Live Art Development Agency, 2013.
